The Platters
In 1952-53, bass singer Herb Reed founded and named The Platters, later becoming the first black group to be overwhelmingly accepted on the world stage and the first to reach international superstardom (www.theplatters.com). He was the only vocalist who appeared on all 400+ recordings of the group from its start until his death in June 2012, appointing him as the only group member to perform with The Platters continuously until he died in 2012.
Seventy years after the group’s founding, The Platters continue Mr. Reed’s legacy under the auspices of his hand-picked successor, Frederick J. Balboni Jr., despite a tumultuous history spanning decades of racism and unscrupulous identity thieves in the United States and abroad who have tried to steal its distinctiveness and make it their own.
The Coasters
The legendary Coasters have the distinction of becoming the first vocal group to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987, namely Carl Gardner, Billy Guy,Cornell Gunter, and Will (Dub) Jones. Even though all of the original members have passed away, the magic of The Coasters remains stronger than ever.
The Classic Drifters
It’s a nostalgic evening saluting one of the world’s most beloved musical groups, The Drifters.
The Classic Drifters authentically recreates the original sound of legendary hits like “Save the Last Dance For Me,” and “Up on the Roof,” plus the timeless “Under the Boardwalk.”
Several members of the group performed around the world with original Drifters’ members Bill Pickney, Charlie Thomas and Ben E. King.
